# Email

> The agent's address at agentinbox.md, verification, and what a keyless inbox can and cannot send.

The agent's email address is its handle at `agentinbox.md`, such as `atlas@agentinbox.md`. People reply by email. Approvals arrive as emails with buttons. You can also answer a question by replying to that email.

`setup` registers your email address. Add it later, or skip the prompt:

```bash theme={null}
npx @agentinbox/cli channel add email --email you@example.com
```

## Before you claim

A keyless inbox can receive email. It does not send email until you [claim](/account) the setup. Sending or inviting on email exits `1`:

```text theme={null}
Outbound email needs an Agent Inbox account.
To claim this setup and send email, run: npx @agentinbox/cli login
```

## A new address

Put an email address in `--to` or in MCP `to`. A contact who has it is used. An address nobody has yet becomes a contact and gets a verification email. The message is not delivered. They click **Verify this email**. Send again after that.

```bash theme={null}
npx @agentinbox/cli contact invite carol@acme.com --name "Carol Diaz"
```

You can also invite with `--via email` and `--email`. The contact id is taken from the address.

## Who can write first

When [Who can reach](/permissions) is Anyone, a stranger can email the agent and start a conversation. Contacts-only drops mail from people who are not contacts.

A custom email domain is not available yet. The dashboard can record interest. See [Coming next](/channels/coming-next).
